In the video I Am Turning into a Faucet, objects appear fluid and malleable; their movement is seldom entirely separate from their surroundings. The foreground and background merge into a flat surface that acts like a piece of fabric which, when pulled at one end, stretches at the other as well. Everything pulsates as if the image wishes to become more than just visible, as if it wants to leap out of its two-dimensional flatness, reach out towards something and touch the viewer. What appears to be completely immaterial possesses all the properties and capabilities of the material.
The video was created using software that utilises machine learning to generate a new frame between two existing consecutive frames, thereby increasing the frame rate and enabling almost any video to be turned into a quasi-slow-motion clip.
Having been divided into individual frames, the recordings for the video I am Turning into a Faucet were rearranged into a new, non-chronological sequence. Parts of the body and the faucet are distorted into elongated organic forms, exposing an unsettling eroticism of these processed images. For a moment, the moving image reveals the dependence of algorithms on the human body, which is becoming increasingly intrusive in all forms of data collection and processing.
Born in 2001 in Ljubljana, where she lives and works, Dunja Rahovsky Šuligoj creates primarily in the field of video and video installations. She is particularly interested in the processes of image-making that blur the boundaries between nature and technology, people and objects, and the living and the non-living. She is a second-year MA student at the Department of Video, Animation and New Media at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana, where she obtained her BA in Painting in 2024. During her studies, she studied at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna as part of the Erasmus programme, and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig. She has taken part in several group exhibitions, including the 6th Triennial Premiera: Fields of Intimacy, Transitions and Potentials of the Media in Celje (2025), the exhibition nightless night at the Sms gallery space in Leipzig (2025) and Let Them Cook (2025) at ZDSLU.
