IN FOCUS: Stadtwerkstatt (The Fog is the Media)

Stadtwerkstatt is bringing exhibits that relate to its art format STWST84x11 FOG MANIFESTO, which was presented in Linz in September 2025. Seeing itself as a critical antidote, Stadtwerkstatt addresses fog as a material, medium, and network. It is about disoriented works and clouded continuities between theory and artistic practice.

For MFRU31, the Stadtwerkstatt exhibits a reorganised transformation of this concept, which plays with the components MANIFEST, EXHIBITION, and an undefined FOG CUBE. It picks up on FLOODING THE ZONE WITH FOG and also invites visitors to FOGGING AROUND as part of MFRU31. Special attention is paid to the format called NEBELKEGELN (Fog Bowling), which stages a spectacle of reduced foresight—as well as hallucinatory consciousness, veiled visibility, and condensed unverifiability. The focus is on simulation and synchronisation – and lots of fog.

Overall, the STWST also focuses on its core themes in its spin-off THE FOG IS THE MEDIA: art after new media, new contexts, critical production. In addition, some of the pieces brought along mark those areas of the house's work that represent artistic constants and subcultural core zones of autonomy. The Stadtwerkstatt intends to build a broken altar of criticism out of them.
