Rob Canning

Rob Canning (UK) is a musician, intermedia artist, and educator. He has produced music for concert halls, theatres, screens, and dance productions, while also engaging in various site-specific and improvisational contexts. His compositions have been performed internationally and presented at conferences including the ICMC (International Computer Music Conference), LAC (Linux Audio Conference), and NIME (New Interfaces for Musical Expression), with his most recent work released on the Kamizdat label. Since the early 90s, his work has been produced exclusively by using free and open-source software. As an advocate for free culture and as an educator, he has collaborated closely with the GOTO10 collective, OpenLab, London Hackspace, and SPC medialab. He has also worked as a senior lecturer in Networked Digital Media at UK universities for many years. He now lives and works in Slovenia, where he and his family are developing a rural art program within the Rizoma Institute. This initiative operates at the convergence of technology, permaculture, and performing arts. Rob Canning holds a PhD in music composition from Goldsmiths, University of London.
